Version 1.1.0
Major Features
- Kamek's Volcano is now console compatible! As a result of an optimisation pass, crash fixes, and a reduction in visual quality for some elements when playing on console, the hack now runs smoothly on original hardware.
- Added "focus mode", hiding background elements and the boss during the Finale/Encore. This will substantially improve performance on lower-end devices. It can be toggled in the options menu when playing on emulator, but can't be disabled when playing on console for performance reasons.
- You can now press L to retry during the Finale/Encore after your first death.
- After completing the first phase of the Finale/Encore, you must wait out a timer on the pause screen before returning to the title screen. This is intended to prevent accidental checkpoint resets.
Attack Hitbox Correction
In prior versions, attack hitboxes lasted for one frame longer than their visuals suggested. I have chosen to reduce the duration of every hitbox by one frame, rather than increase the duration of every hitbox, since fight mechanics were designed to accomodate the expected duration, and changing the hitboxes in this way doesn't substantially affect difficulty.
Minor Features and Improvements
- The entire hack has received an optimisation pass, dramatically improving performance for machines with low specifications.
- The effect quality option has been removed. Effect quality will now always be set to "full" when playing on emulator, and "reduced" on console.
- Added an explanation in the options menu for each option.
- Slightly improved the visual clarity for an Encore attack pattern. The pattern itself is unchanged, but it should be clearer to see whether Mario is safe or not during the attack.
- Shading on the title screen background has been improved.
- Added the version number to the title screen.
- Added a warning to the title screen when using an insufficient graphics plugin.
Bug Fixes
- Various fixes to console-exclusive crashes and graphics bugs.
- Fixed a bug that allowed Mario to move around during the second Finale/Encore cutscenes under some circumstances.
- Fixed attack visuals persisting inconsistently when Mario dies on the same frame that they should disappear.
- Fixed Finale checkpoint persisting after returning to the title screen under some circumstances.
- Fixed some parts of Mario's animations not being affected by the time stop mechanic.
- Fixed text display when erasing save data from the options menu.
- Fixed telegraphs and some VFX rendering incorrectly under ParaLLEl graphics plugin.
- Fixed incorrect render order for some VFX in the Finale/Encore.
- Fixed camera angle ranges being too permissive when reading signs.
